Olaian Longboard Range – 2019 surfboard review

Olaian launched a line of well-designed and decently priced hard top longboards. The three new 2019 models look really sharp and we couldn’t wait to dive into the specs. What is the difference between the Decathlon longboards and Torq or NSP longboards? What makes the ‘performance’ longboard stand out from the other 9’0? The new Olaian 9′ is based on the old Tribord 9′, a well-priced longboard with a two+one fin option. Besides the new 9′, Decathlon introduces a high-end 9′ performance longboard with a round tail and a two+one fin setup. The third new model is the Olaian 9’4 single fin – the tallest longboard developed by Decathlon till date. The redesign under the Olaian brand has done well for the looks of the longboards!

Olaian 900 5’4 foam surfboard review – our experience with this Decathlon soft top

The Olaian 900 5’4 foam surf board is a mini simmons or beater performance foamie. Decathlon follows a trend in surfing, that of the ultra short foam boards for shore breaks and wedgy waves. We tested the board and we found it very maneuverable – almost too much so! Once you’re on the board it turns so quickly. It’s easy to generate speed and it performs well in different types of waves. In bigger waves the board gets a little shaky, though. Bottom line of this review: The Olaian 5’4 is a bouncy, skatey shore break freak machine – and definitely not for newbies!

How is the performance of this Decathlon soft board? We put the Olaian foam 900 6’0 to the test. In our experience it’s a fun, versatile foam surfboard that’s a whole lot more capable than the price suggests. However…I wouldn’t call it a performance surfboard and I’ll explain why in this review.
We love the design and it gives a super fun riding experience in both small/choppy waves and steep shorebreaks. We tested the board in different surfing conditions – read our review here.
